FOOD BRINGS US TOGETHER

OCA-Greater Houston is set to highlight a diverse selection of acclaimed Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) food establishments in Houston. This initiative aims to bolster local businesses while offering enticing discounts to all participants. All proceeds go to support our annual community service project of providing bags of rice and rice noodle care packages for low income seniors and domestic abuse victim families.

How it works:

  • Patrons donate $15 or more and receive ARW Passport with QR code discounts to all participating businesses.

  • With donations, OCA-Greater Houston will purchase bags of rice and deliver to low-income seniors around Houston.

How to participate as a food establishment:

  • Fill out our online application, and we will contact you for next steps or details regarding our event and how to prepare for ARW patrons.

  • Each patron will receive a unique QR code. The instructions will ask them to present the code at checkout, and we will apply the listed discount from our directory.

Join us at this pre-July 4th annual community service festival to raise funds to sponsor an elementary school in need (over 90% of students come from low-income families) with a new backpack full of school supplies for an entire year, for every student (averaging 900 students). After supplies are purchased, volunteers will come together once again in August to pack backpacks and distribute them to students!

This annual event was started over 30 years ago by the Chinese American Relief Effort Coalition (C.A.R.E.), a collaboration of organizations with members of Chinese American heritage, including OCA-Greater Houston.

Lion Dance is a traditional Asian performance art, rooted in Chinese culture, that combines aspects of martial arts, dance, music, and theater storytelling using a detailed lion costume, controlled by two people, to tell a story and bring good luck and ward off evil spirits. It incorporates physical skill, immense strength, intricate choreography, and symbolic meaning rooted in Chinese culture and tradition. Lion Dance serves as a vibrant cultural expression, fostering community and preserving cultural heritage for younger generations.
