Chai Tea is about Ash (Aishwarya) who is a first generation South-Asian American struggling with figuring out how she fits in society. A conversation with a classmate leads Ash to think about her double identity living in America and the little things she did to feel more accepted. After the conversation, Ash contemplates and thinks about who she really is and what it means to be an Asian-American.
Ami Patel is a young filmmaker from Houston, Texas. She had a fascination for film ever since she first held a camera at eight years old. In college, she majored in business believing that a young Asian girl like her could never make it in such a competitive industry. However, upon graduation, she had a moment of realization that she should pursue what she loves after seeing more representation in the film industry. With the support of her family and friends, Ami created her first short film Chai-Tea which closely resembles her life growing up.
