Documentary Short | 2018 | Canada | 6 min | English
In the urban jungle of Manila, the call centre capital of the world, anonymous call centre agents spill the beans on the Philippines' most in-demand job. Their stories reveal prevalent truths about the country’s rapid Westernization and cultural suppression, all of which take place just on the other side of our phone calls.
Alexander was born and raised in Canada. He is a Hot Docs alumni and focuses his work on transnational, contemporary Philippines issues. He wrote and directed his first short documentary, Balikbayans, while attending Sheridan College, in which he collaborated with the University of the Philippines’ Film Institute. The film premiered at Cebu International Film Festival and was most recently implemented into the Toronto District School Board curriculum by York University. Nightcaller, his latest documentary, won the 2018 Air Canada Short Film Award at the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival.
